Fred's Hospice Run
Our story - by Lyn Cox
My brother Malcolm, known as ‘Fred’ by us all, died from cancer on the 7th of July 2006, aged 50, after a very brave fight.
He is missed so very much by myself, husband Rog, Mum & Dad and wife
Jenny and the children.
Malcolm received dedicated care and treatment from the Oncology Unit at Weston-Super-Mare hospital, and at the end of his life he was so lucky to be given a room at Weston Hospice Care, known as Jackson Barstow House; and I do mean lucky as there are only 10 rooms available.
The care and nursing he received at Weston Hospice Care was second to none. Malcolm was in his own en-suite bedroom with the best nursing staff only a buzzer away. Nothing is too much trouble for these remarkable people, for either pain control or tender loving care.
All our family had compassion and kindness shown towards them at all times, with any questions we had answered with honesty.
So, to give back to this special place, which is run mainly through fundraising and charitable donations, Rog and I decided to start Fred’s Hospice Run. Malcolm – ‘Fred’, was a keen biker in the late 60’s, riding his ‘Triumph Bonneville’ and is no doubt chuffed we are doing this run in his memory.
